#animationMonday challenge. Week 9. Keep it simple

Happy Monday Sugar pies.

With Christmas around the corner days are getting busier and busier.Evenings feel like nothing and I almost don’t have time to breath.

That’s why I decided to keep it simple for this week’s challenge. I bought this very cool 3D character called Pio a while back and I love to play around with it. It also has been a good opportunity to enjoy working on Maya after all that After Effects time 🙂

I wanted to animate him saying hello in an old fashioned way. Here is the result:

This character is from Boutique23. Check their riggs out, they are very cool! They have plenty to choose from and the prices are quite reasonable.

#animationMonday challenge. Week 7. Animating cameras.

Happy Monday cupcakes;

Last week I missed my weekly post as I was in Barcelona spending some time with my family.

This week I wanted to do something different.I want to show you how to animate a camera to showcase your 3D modelling works.

I will assume that the scene has been set at 25fps or 29.97fps, doesn’t matter. I will also assume that you have your 3D Model in the scene 🙂 Let’s get started:

1.-Create a locator

2.-Move the locator to the center of your 3D Model

3.-Go to Modify-Freeze Transformations: now your locator has value 0 on all the attributes in the Channel box

4.-Create a new camera

5.-Go to view from the camera

6.-Set your camera view somewhere nice and steady so you can see your model in full

7.-Go to Perspective View- Press 4 so you can see the inside of your model

8.-Select first your Locator and holding Shift select your camera

9.-Change to Animation Menu on the top of your Maya screen

10.-Select Constrain/Parent- now your camera is linked to your Locator so if the locator moves the camera will move with it

11.-Select only your locator and set a key frame on Frame 1

12.-Go to frame 125 and set another key frame for the locator

13.-Change the Locator’s Rotate Y value to 360

14.-Now change the value on your timeline to 124, one frame less so there’s a smooth movement between frame 125 and frame 1

And voilĂ ! You have now a fully animated camera that pivots around your 3D Model smooth and nciely. Click on Play and enjoy!

#animationMonday challenge Week 3. The bouncing ball

Happy Monday little monkeys 🙂

Today I want to present you “The bouncing ball”. This is one of the first exercises that you learn when you start studying animation. The idea is that it has all the basic elements and that it can be applied to any cycle, walk, run etc.

I found a very cool tutorial from Angryanimator.com. You can check it out here.

I did some bouncing ball exercises during my 3D Animation Master Degree but I realised that I’m a but rusty since you need to keep doing it every now and then.

It can look like is not much but all experienced animators agree that if you master the Bouncing ball you will have accomplished a big thing and it will be much easier to keep improving your animation skills.

So even small things can make a big difference. Remember that.
