#animationMonday challenge. Week 9. Keep it simple

week9

Happy Monday Sugar pies.

With Christmas around the corner days are getting busier and busier.Evenings feel like nothing and I almost don’t have time to breath.

That’s why I decided to keep it simple for this week’s challenge. I bought this very cool 3D character called Pio a while back and I love to play around with it. It also has been a good opportunity to enjoy working on Maya after all that After Effects time 🙂

I wanted to animate him saying hello in an old fashioned way. Here is the result:

This character is from Boutique23. Check their riggs out, they are very cool! They have plenty to choose from and the prices are quite reasonable.

And that’s it for today. Have a good week and don’t forget to have fun !!

#animationMonday challenge. Week 8. Animating letters

week8Happy Monday buttercups. Lately I’ve been working a lot on After Effects preparing a promotional clip for one of my clients.

One of the coolest parts of After Effects is to animate letters. There are so many things you can do! My favourite one is the hand written effect. I animated Tailless logo with this effect to give you an example of what can be done. Check it out here:

https://vimeo.com/194253402

For this I followed this very cool tutorial from vvincefantasy. I’ll put the link below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYcp3qqPdDg&t=301s

And talking about the animated logo Tailess is a storybook application created by Kitty Latte, the company founded by Ana Galera, Augustine Coll and myself. You can have a look at the website to see what we do and you can download the game and play. Is really fun and free!

You can also leave your feedback on the platform you downloaded it from (Playstore, iTunes, Amazon..) we would love to hear your thoughts on this app as we are planning to do some more.

And that’s all for today. Have an awesome week and don’t let the Christmas rush make you forget that 2017 will be awesome! 🙂

#animationMonday challenge. Week 7. Animating cameras.

week7

Happy Monday cupcakes;

Last week I missed my weekly post as I was in Barcelona spending some time with my family.

This week I wanted to do something different.I want to show you how to animate a camera to showcase your 3D modelling works.

I will assume that the scene has been set at 25fps or 29.97fps, doesn’t matter. I will also assume that you have your 3D Model in the scene 🙂 Let’s get started:

1.-Create a locator

create-camera

2.-Move the locator to the center of your 3D Model

move-your-locator-to-the-center-of-your-3d-model

3.-Go to Modify-Freeze Transformations: now your locator has value 0 on all the attributes in the Channel box

4.-Create a new camera

create-camera

5.-Go to view from the camera

select-the-view-from-your-camera

6.-Set your camera view somewhere nice and steady so you can see your model in full

set-your-camera-view

7.-Go to Perspective View- Press 4 so you can see the inside of your model

Perspective view.png

8.-Select first your Locator and holding Shift select your camera

select-locator-hold-shift-select-camera

9.-Change to Animation Menu on the top of your Maya screen

change-to-animation-meny

10.-Select Constrain/Parent- now your camera is linked to your Locator so if the locator moves the camera will move with it

select-constrain-parent

11.-Select only your locator and set a key frame on Frame 1

keyframe-on-frame-1

12.-Go to frame 125 and set another key frame for the locator

key-frame-on-125

13.-Change the Locator’s Rotate Y value to 360

rotate-y-value-to-360

14.-Now change the value on your timeline to 124, one frame less so there’s a smooth movement between frame 125 and frame 1

change-to-124-frames

And voilĂ ! You have now a fully animated camera that pivots around your 3D Model smooth and nciely. Click on Play and enjoy!

And that’s all for today my little monkeys. Hope you have an amazing week and do a lot of animations. Have fun!

#animationMonday challenge. Week 6. Animating a quadruped

Happy Monday cupcakes

Animating animals can be fun as well as very tricky. I haven’t animated a ton of animals myself. A while back I found an amazing tutorial and a free fox rig online (I’ve put the links at the bottom) This gave me the opportunity to improve my animation skills and get a nice clip of a quadruped walk cycle.

Check it out:

I followed this tutorial from Samy Fecih. He’s an amazing animator and one of the founders of Bring Your Own Animation. And I will never be thankful enough for that. Check it out is really cool.

You can also download this Fox Rig for free at Creative Crash.

Hope this motivates you to practice quadruped animation, it can be a lot of fun.

Have a wonderful week everyone.

#animationMonday challenge. Week 5. Lipsync.

week5

Happy Monday snowflakes. Winter has definitely arrived and London has been filled with long coats, cozy knitted hats and shiny gloves. Today I want to share with you a lip sync clip I started ages ago and that I’ve been polishing and redoing for a while.

You can check it on Vimeo here

Creating a lip sync is a very good exercise to show your animation skills when it comes to acting and making a character talk. It can also be really fun if you get audio that you get excited about. I got excited about this short audio from an Olsen twins movie, maybe too attached. I wanted to animate a little girl and couldn’t find interesting footage so I end up with this.

My friend Alex who gives me feedback on my animations told me this was too long. And he was right. I realised that being too invested in this clip for too long hasn’t benefited me at all.At some point I stop seeing the faults and left it for long time.

Pixar animators say that you shouldn’t get attached to your babies. Meaning that you need to be ready to start over again and again until you get it right. I´ve been reluctant to start this one over as I was afraid I would waste my time by starting again. I was wrong. So what I want to do now is to finish this in the best way possible.

And that’s all for today my little sknowflakes. I want to show you my improvements and share this journey with you.  Have a lovely week!

How to survive. An animator’s journey.

Picture found on this post http://www.lettersofnote.com/2009/11/to-all-aspiring-animators.html. A must read.

First thing you need to know is that no one is perfect, practice makes perfection, actually practice makes you improve. You’ll never be perfect, sorry!

The legend is true guys: at the end of the day it will be up to you to how many hours you practice. The most important thing is that you spend time animating because you love doing animation, not because you want to be better than anyone. You keep working on those shots as a way to fulfill you, as a way of life. Not as a way to show off.

Each one of us has a different learning pace, we shouldn’t envy others that are learning (or that they seem to be learning) faster than you.

First rule of survival is “do your own thing and don’t give a s**t about what other people think (or do)” If you do what you love, believe in yourself and are kind to people you’ll get rewarded. Check out Elizabeth Gilbert’s book “Big Magic“. An awesome and inspiring read for all artists out there.

I am lucky enough to be surrounded by creative and interesting people. I love that they work on their craft no matter the “glory” or how much money they make with it. They are happy and fulfilled people. They have interesting lives and interesting topics to talk about.

And that’s what matters at the end of the day. We need to do more of what we love, of what makes us happy. The journey is long my friends, but is going to be awesome 🙂

#animationMonday challenge. Week 4. Infographics

week4

Happy Monday pumpkins. Hope you all had an amazing weekend and enjoyed the most amazing Halloween party ever 🙂

Today I want to share with you a short Infographics film that I created a few months ago. The topic is levers.Check it out here.

I’ll be honest with you: I’m crazy about Infographics. According to Wikipedia information graphics or infographics are graphic visual representations of information, data or knowledge intended to present information quickly and clearly. From my point of view this is one of the most interesting ways to explain and send message across any platform. Visual ideas are much more easy to understand and assimilate.

I wish when I was a kid there had been more Infographics in my periods back when I was at school. It would have been so much fun and educational.

Let me know in the comments how do you feel about Infographics, if they are your thing or not. Do you prefer to read the information you get or do you rather see a video?

Have a wonderful week everyone 🙂
